Imagining Royalmount: Launch meeting
In response to the poor reception that met the first version of the Royalmount project, the promoter Carbonleo has decided to consult with experts and citizens in order to arrive at an improved proposal. We are therefore presented with an opportunity to put forward the principles which from this point forward must guide urban development.
The environmental and climate emergency demands that we rethink our ways, including our overconsumption, transportation modes, and urban planning, all sectors where decisions can have a major impact on our greenhouse gas emissions and our energy and resource consumption. We can no longer pursue the development models of the last century. We no longer have the luxury of repeating the errors of the past. We don’t need new shopping centres, any more than we need more traffic congestion, but rather complete, ecological, low-carbon and resilient communities, as well as affordable housing and healthy living environments.
A collective of citizens and organizations is being formed to reflect on the best potential usages for current brownfield sites, to mobilize citizens, and to act so that the city responds to their needs as much as possible. Join us to imagine Royalmount and the future neighbourhoods of our city!
